'Com port open error' with iPAQ 2210 or Toshiba e740

¡®Com port open error' means it has wrong Com port number.
Some PDA which have built-in CF slot can have different Com port number from our manual. If other device has occupied one Com port once, it still dominate that port number after it pluged out. So try with other port number like Com7 or Com1 after software reset (poke a little hole in the PDA).

Does SysOn CF plus need driver file?

Our SysOn CF plus is plug and play device, so it doesn't need driver with PDA. But for the notebook PC, you need to install driver. Driver for notebook user is in the CD in the unit package. Or it can be downloaded in our Web-site. download

Changing 'NMEA to SiRF' or 'SiRF to NMEA'

The initial setting (factory mode) of our SysOn GPS CF plus is NMEA, 4800. You can change the mode in your navigation software, SysOn Veiwer, or other viewer program like Winfast navigator if you want.
Please be aware that if the connection setting is not correct, mode cannot accept the command. If the connection is correct, you can see the word 'NMEA' or 'SiRF' near the bottom of SysOn Viewer. So please make sure it has connected whether is NMEA or SiRF mode fist, and then change the mode and baud rate.
Here is a manual file for changing protocol.

  SysOnChip viewer program

It is Simple program to check our SysOn GPS works without navigation software.
You can see simple information like velocity, longitude, latitude, altitude and change setting with this program.

  Xtract II version

We started to produce New SysOn CF plus ll with Xtract II. And it is not only with upgraded firmware but also with some improvement on hardware. It is impossible to upgrade in the web-site.

Battery life before fall back to cold start

Our SysOn CF plus battery is rechargable and it start to recharge once it get the location data. The back-up battery can be used more than 500 times when discharged and recharged fully. And it save the last location data to shorten the TTFF(time to first fix).
It takes more 3 months before it discharged and fall back to cold start. And in many cases the GPS had left more than 3 months and still had a warm start.

  Optimized Baud rate setting

The optimized baudrate setting is 4,800 bps for NMEA and 38,400 bps for SiRF mode.

Notebook PC user - How to connect

Physically if the Notebook PC has a CF slot, our CF GPS can be connected. Or you can use PCMCIA card to connect GPS. Next, install driver (See FAQ no.2). The symbol comes from GPS looks like this '$GPVTG,,T,,M,,N,,K,N* $GPGGA,004631.505,,,,,0,00,50.0,".
(in SiRF mode the symbol looks unreable)
We don't provide viewer program for notebook. You can see the readable signal like longitude, latitude through Navigation software.

Red light of SysOn CF plus

To save PDA battery the red light of GPS is on only when the Port is opened. If the com port is not correct and so it hasn't connected to PDA, the led light can't be on even though it is plugged in the CF slot firmly. It is one way to check the Com port is correct or not. But if the GPS is plugged in the expansion pack, the led light is always on regardless it gets signal or not.

Compatibility issue with Dell Axim x51v

SysOn CF memory GPS driver for Window mobile 5.0 is not compatible with Dell Axim x51v yet. You can use our CF memory GPS with any other PDA which have Window Mobile 5.0, but only the Dell PDA have some compatibility issue not only with our product but also with other company's CF type product. This is because the Dell Axim x51v with WM 5.0 has shorter BIOS bus timing than industrial standards. We are waiting for the Dell Axim to issue a Rom upgrade to solve the basic problem. The Dell Axim x50v which is upgraded to Windows Mobile 5.0 shows same problem.
So, in this case we recommend you to use our CF plus GPS or Smart Blue instead of CF memory GPS. SysOn CF plus II and CF plus III are plug&play product so the Dell PDA recognizes it immediately.

What does NMEA compliant and SiRF binary mean?

NMEA is an organization that was formed to set a standard among marine hardware manufactures such that all the devices could seamlessly communicate and interact with each other. The NMEA-0183 standard provides a standard messaging protocol that includes many GPS sentences. Since marine navigation was one of the first adopters of GPS technology, GPS manufactures would output the NMEA sentences from their devices for communication and aiding control of the boats autopilot system. Over the years the NMEA-0183 standard has evolved and most GPS support this protocol, and most GPS enabled software applications know how to read the NMEA sentences. NMEA compliant means that the device or application will work within the guidelines set by this standard. In layman's terms NMEA 2.0 compliant means the GPS is compatible with most mapping and GPS tracking applications. For the software application NMEA compliant means the application knows how to interpret sentences originating from a NMEA compliant source.
The SysOn Bluetooth GPS supports both NMEA and SiRF binary protocol.

  What's the SysOn Bluetooth GPS?

The SysOn Bluetooth GPS is a bluetooth, wireless GPS data transmission device. It connects to laptops or PDAs via bluetooth technology. Bluetooth technology means that the SysOn Bluetooth GPS can receive position location data without a computer connection. The SysOn Bluetooth GPS is WAAS-enabled and NMEA-compliant.

What is SysOn Bluetooth GPS battery life?

The SysOn Bluetooth GPS has a rechargeable Li-polymer battery. It's battery life is about 8 hours from recharged to discharged fully under standard circumstance.

  What does WAAS/EGNOS support mean?

WAAS stands for Wide Area Augmentation System and is a system of satellites and ground stations that provide GPS signal corrections. As is true of the GPS satellites, there is no extra charge or equipment required to take advantage of WAAS/EGNOS. Because the SysOn Bluetooth GPS is WAAS/EGNOS support, it is possible where WAAS(US)and EGNOS(Europe) are available to experience accuracy of under three meters for the majority of tracking time.

Which software will the SysOn Bluetooth GPS work with?

The SysOn Bluetooth GPS is NMEA compatible. It will work with most PDA navigation software. The SysOn Bluetooth GPS is wireless GPS receiver that can be used with Bluetooth enabled PDA and laptop, handheld. In order to use the SysOn Bluetooth GPS, your PDA or laptop must be Bluetooth eneabled.

Where will and where will it not work?

As long as the GPS receiver has a clear view of the sky and is held with the antenna orientated towards the sky (vertically), it will work anywhere on Earth, accurately reporting your current Latitude, Longitude, heading and speed. However, in order for the GPS data to be correctly displayed on a map, you will need to have the relevant map loaded in to your handheld.
Please note, some car manufacturers are using metallic heat reflecting windshields which also reflect the GPS signal, blocking it from entering the car.
The solution to this problem is to use an external patch antenna, which will transmit the GPS signal inside the car.

How much does it cost to run the system once I installed it?

Nothing! The GPS receiver uses data from GPS satellites. This data is available, free of charge, for anyone who wants to use it.

How can I get longer battery life from PDA using a Bluetooth GPS unit?

The backlighting brightness mode has the most impact on battery life of Pocket PC handhelds. The means that you should choose the brightness level that matches your needs, and provide the longest battery life possible. The super bright backlighting mode will give the shortest battery life, so should only be used while connected to the in-car charging cable.
If you need only GPS voice information without watching the screen, 'setting backlight turn off after 1 minute' would be useful. This would lengthen the battery life. To set this, choose setting -> system -> backlight.

Does SysOn Bluetooth GPS work with the XDA II?

This model can also be known as the Qtek 2020, T-Mobile MDA, Siemens SX-56, iMate Pocket PC or the Orange SPV1000. Please be aware this is a third party solution which is developed on the internet and is not a SysOnChip software product. Download the following patch file :Pocket Bluetooth Tools for the O2 XDA II and the MDA II (BTHTools1100.zip)

What kind of PDA or portable PC can be used with SysOn Bluetooth GPS?

The device should be Bluetooth enabled. It also should have stack (software) which provide SPP (Serial Port Profile). If the device is not Bluetooth enabled, BT adapter can be used.
There can be different type adapters like USB type or CF type. ( We don't deal with BT Adapter)

  Paring BT GPS with PDA

Once BT GPS is paired it doesn't need to be paired every time . It is recorded once you use the device. The Bluetooth can be connected exclusively at one time. Select the device you want to pair when you change the pairing.

I saw 'Remote Device passkey' when connecting PDA with Palm OS,
    what should I do?

Unlike Pocket PC PDA models including iPAQ series, If you use Palm OS, you may got the message to enter a password when you try to detect the Bluetooth GPS with your Palm PDA and make a Bluetooth bonding/pairing process. Please just enter 0000 (four zero) as the passkey .

The name of my Bluetooth GPS is not exactly same as 'SysOn BT GPS     OFB6'. Something wrong?

It's normal. When the Bluetooth Browser detect Bluetooth enabled device in your Window based PDA, there will be SysOn BT GPS. But it will show different number instead of 'OFB6', because it is the unique number of your BT GPS.
When there are more than one SysOn BT GPS near your PDA, you can choose one for pairing. And you don't need to worry about the question mark on the picture. The PDA just doesn't have suitable icon for the BT GPS, and it is not a problem at all. Some Window based PDA might require to enter Passkey, and the key is 0000 (four zero).
